For years I have had a thought in the back of my mind to buy land somewhere, go off grid and take my family and friends with me. We’ll have our own little community of love and respect. We’ll mostly live off the land and gardens that we share and we will have no need for electronics or modern technology. It’ll be so pure and satisfying…
Then I wake up and realize that, unfortunately, that’s not reality. So, I came up with ten ways to feel like I’m making a difference and getting back to basics that are actually achievable in everyday life.
1 – Gratitude.
The easiest way to recognize what you already have and reduce the need for more stuff is by being grateful.
2 – Au Naturale.
Whether it’s your food or your body – go simplistic. Go back to the basic food groups and quit the contouring and primping for a day or 2.
3 – Go Green.
Drop the chemicals and pick up Pinterest. Apple cider vinegar, baking soda, and rubbing alcohol can fix and clean almost everything. Drop the plastic bottles and pick up reusable bottles. Reuse and recycle. Waste not, want not.
4 – Wi-Fi free zones
Have a space in your house that’s wi-fi free, like the dinner table, and have a conversation in person instead of on the phone.
5 – Go outside
Simplify your date night. Plan a hike or a walk in the park. Ditch the phones and screens for a while and hold hands instead.
6 – Be a Good Example
Work on showing the world the most beautiful part of you – your compassion and kindness. It’s contagious.
7 – Downsize
Start with your purse and just keep on purging. Never hurts to clean out your beloved spaces and let go of things that are unnecessary or unused. Donate to a local charity and go one step further.
8 – Try exercise
Exercise is just as important as drinking water for our bodies, and getting into a routine that is attainable for you can help lift your mood and your health. Try taking up a yoga class, kickboxing, water aerobics. Even just a walk outside in your free time can be so beneficial for your health!
9 – Be creative
Try taking up a hobby that isn’t just watching a television show or scrolling along on social media. Pick up a book that seems interesting, practice some artistic skills, pick up a pencil or keyboard and give writing a try!
10 – Meditation and mindfulness
One of the most relaxing ways to get back to basics is to try meditation and mindful thinking. Take even just a few minutes out of your day to just sit, relax, and focus on your breathing. You may find that you feel so much more refreshed in both your mind and body.
